A new Fitness studio seems to be opening everyday on every corner, fitness on social media is blowing up everyone’s feed and in home exercise equipment with on demand classes are being delivered to people’s homes on the regular. So here is my question…..

How can the fitness industry be at an all time high, yet so is obesity in America?

Being in the fitness industry for the past 20 years, I’ve seen a lot of trends, gimmicks and changes. One of the biggest changes I see now is people are more focused on the “amenities” and  “community” rather than the actual workout itself.  Gyms and Fitness studios around the country are using these two things to build their business and consumers are not getting the physical benefits of a great workout, in other words they are buying the amenities and community but getting robbed the results. Trainers and studio owners are now focusing more on making you feel loved for the benefit of lining their pockets with money. When clients do not see results they are then convincing them to love themselves as they are and be more comfortable in their own skin, while those two things are important, they are forgetting the two most important reasons for working out; Health and Body Function. 

When the surge of fitness studios happened in the first decade of the 2000’s they were specific and original, you went to a specific studio for a specific workout and it was in a studio built on their workout. It was a place to go for the grit and grind of a great workout without the big box commercial gym feeling. Now the studios are turning into a Jack of all trades, master of none place to get a shitty workout and be told how amazing you are, hindering the success of one’s fitness ability and body function and the worst part is, the only ones getting results are the studio owners. Pay attention to the product you are actually buying when joining a studio.
